DIAMONDS OF BRILLIANCE, SPARKLE AND Burn

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

When thinking of the diamond, an image of a sparkling precious stone comes to mind. Although it is clear, a ray of rainbow-colored light can strike your eyes when light hits upon the diamond. These qualities of a diamond all count on one essential diamond characteristic – its cut.

Cut refers to a diamond’s proportion and the quality of its polish and proportion.Diamonds are never created equal, whether it’s created by nature or made synthetically in a lab. And diamonds are all the more not equal when it comes to their cuts.

A diamond cutter can make or break a diamond’s worth; it takes a lot of skill and precision to make an ideally cut and well-proportioned diamond, that can exude brilliance, fire, and glisten. For this understanding, the diamond cut is often considered the most important characteristic of a diamond, more so that its’ naturally occurring counterparts, the clarity and color of a diamond.

Light plays a big role when it comes to a diamond’s appearance, given that one of its well-known properties is a high light dispersion and refraction, along with hardness and durability. When a diamond’s cut is poorly done, it can limit the amount of light that enters and exits the gem.

A diamond’s light properties are affected by its proportions, which is determined by the diamond’s cut. This is the most important factor because it can direct and affect the flow of light more than other quality factors. If a diamond’s proportions are done correctly, it can exude the maximum brilliance, fire and scintillation.

Diamond brilliance is the amount of light reflected back to your eye, and is essential in making a diamond beautiful. It has two components – .

The better proportion the diamond has, the more light is returned to your eye, and the brighter the stone will appear. But in order to brilliant, it also needs contrast to make the light returning to your eye appear even brighter.Fire or dispersed light refers to the flashes of color due to colorful separationinto all the different colrs of the rainbow.

Diamonds experts have found out a long time ago that more fire is produced when a diamond’s crown is steeper and its table is smaller, which is how old diamonds are cut.

Dect 6.0 Home Phone System

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Welcome to the world of Dect 6.0 and all the possibilities that come with such a system. We have just gotten our first Dect 6.0 home phone system in our house and we do enjoy the added features that come with it. Having a phone at every study desk and bedroom without the hassle of putting telephone wires here and there is great though we did have to put the chargers close to an outlet but there are many more outlets to choose from then telephone outlets.

There are a lot of features that come with the Dect D-digital E-Enhanced C-Cordless T-Telecommunications 6.0 system. First there is clarity of sound and voice which is a great improvement over the last cordless we had been using. Also the weight of the units is so much lighter and the battery seems to last at least twice as much as did the older features almost as much as cell phones but not quite.

The range of the Dect 6.0 is much more then it’s mega hertz cousins so if walking around the north 40 is in your plans then this could bring a lot of joy. Another nice feature is the fact that many models have the ability to share on the same line at the same time. So when your uncle Bob calls you can have the whole family join in on the conversation with their own handsets. Another advantage is the fact that the chances of your neighbors listening in on your phone conversation is little to none because there should not be any way that frequency will be pickup from other Dect 6.0 systems.

There is no comparison with the Dect 6.0 and your cell phone as far as all the conveniences that the cell phones of today offer but if you want to keep your phone bills to a minimum then having a home phone system is a great money saver. If you are like us and have poor reception with the cell phone at home then it’s a great advantage. Also if you have a VOIP system then plugging into the Dect 6.0 will only enhance your phone system. The choices are many and the quality of most of these Deck 6.0 systems is very good compared to the older mega hertz models.

Remember that when choosing a Dect 6.0 system you want to stay with a known brand that you trust it may cost more but you will get many years of satisfaction in having a trouble free home phone system. The other thing to consider is if you want to add more handsets to your system at a later time you should check out where and how much will another handset and charger be found and cost. That could help you in your decision on which brand to buy.

A close look at how diamonds are priced – let’s talk about clarity!

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Today I’m going to have a look at one of the “4 C’s” of how diamonds are graded.  In case you don’t know, diamonds are graded in 4 main categories – cut, color, carat and clarity.  Let’s take a close look at the last one – clarity.

The clarity grading scale goes from IF (the best) down to I3 (the worst).  In total, there are 10 grades that a diamond can fall into.

Clarity looks at how many “inclusions” that are found in the diamond.  Basically, inclusions are small blemishes or imperfections.  They occur naturally when the rock is forming in the earth and they can be found in almost all diamonds.

When grading the diamond, a gemologist inspects the diamond under intense magnification to look at the inclusions that are present.  The grading is then submitted based on how many inclusions, and also how apparent or large they are.

As an example, a diamond that is given an IF grading has no inclusions at all.  This is incredibly rare, and as you can imagine, this type of diamond will have a huge price premium attached to it.

A stone with a grading of VS2 will have “very slight” inclusions – these will only be noticeable when viewed under a microscope and aren’t noticeable with just the naked eye.  These diamonds sell for a lot less that an IF graded diamond.

It’s important to familiarize yourself with the different ways diamonds are graded.  Grab a diamond ring buying guide - this will make a huge difference in the end as you can save a lot of money on your purchase.  It can be the difference between finding an affordable engagement ring instead of overpaying and putting a huge smile on your jewelers face.
