Saturday, January 16th, 2010Belize City was raveged by a storm; however the storm could not destroy the character of the of those who lived there and those folks eventually decided to create a new city in a safer location. Sounds like a story of an Oscar winning movie, isn’t it? Well, it is not a story for any movie. This is the truth behind the origin of the city of Belmopan, the capital city of the country of Belize.
Belize City, the former capital city located along the coast, was wrecked by a category 5 storm in 1961 so a new capital city was created further inland and it was named Belmopan. There is a growing number of people that have decided that this city is worth visiting or, like me, have decided to make it a new home.
